Applicants must complete the online application process through Shopify.
Step 1: Apply to Dev Degree
- Submit an online application to the Shopify Dev Degree team
- Only basic personal and academic information is required at this stage
- Applying does not commit you immediately
Dev Degree offers are conditional upon acceptance into one of Shopify’s partner universities:
- Carleton University
- York University
Applicants may apply to the Dev Degree program before submitting their university applications for Fall 2026.
Step 2: Complete Computational Thinking Questions
Applicants must complete a set of computational thinking questions designed to assess readiness for learning Computer Science.
- No need to panic
- These questions focus on problem-solving and logical thinking
- Prior programming experience is not required
Step 3: Submit Personal Statements
Applicants must write personal statements explaining:
- Why they are interested in the Dev Degree Program
- Why they want to pursue a Computer Science degree
This is an opportunity to highlight motivation, curiosity, and career goals.
Step 4: Interviews
Craft Assessment Interviews
Selected applicants will be invited to complete two back-to-back interviews known as the Craft Assessment.
Meet a Dev Degree Intern
- Informal conversation with a current Dev Degree intern
- Learn about real experiences in the program
Admissions and Technical Interview
- Interview with a Dev Degree team member
- Discussion about program expectations
- Problem-solving session with a Shopify Developer
- No prior programming experience required
- Focus on cognitive processing and problem-solving ability
Life Story Interview
After the Craft Assessment, selected candidates will be invited to the Life Story Interview with a Shopify Recruiter.
Applicants will be asked to discuss:
- Personal background
- Hobbies and interests
- Life experiences and motivations
The best preparation is reflecting on your journey and experiences that led you to apply.
Step 5: Offers
After all interviews are completed, successful candidates will receive official offers to join the Shopify Dev Degree Program.
