About the Role
As a Senior Nursery Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the Production Manager and ensuring smooth day-to-day nursery operations. This position requires strong technical knowledge of plant care, leadership capability, and a proactive approach to maintaining production standards.
You will be responsible not only for plant health and maintenance but also for guiding junior staff, assisting with production planning, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-organized working environment.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Daily watering, pruning, spacing, and weeding
- Pest and disease monitoring and control
- Spraying and general plant health management
- Assist the Production Manager with implementing production schedules
- Complete seasonal nursery tasks efficiently
- Guide and support junior staff members
- Provide on-the-job training and supervision
- Promote safe work practices and correct techniques
- Potting, transplanting, seeding, and preparing plants for dispatch
- Stock rotation, labeling, and order preparation
- Monitor plant health and report issues promptly
- Record basic production data such as plant counts or losses
- Maintain cleanliness of sheds, tunnels, and outdoor work areas
- Safely operate nursery equipment and irrigation systems
- Follow all health and safety procedures
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a commercial nursery environment
- Strong knowledge of plant care, pest control, and irrigation
- Ability to lead by example and guide junior staff
- Competence in operating nursery equipment and sprayers
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for outdoor work
- Good communication skills and a proactive mindset
- Willingness to work flexible hours during peak seasons
